Maria Tereno

Maria Tereno is the Country Managing Director and Head of Human Pharma UK & Ireland, Boehringer Ingelheim.

Maria Tereno is a seasoned business executive with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having held diverse leadership roles across multiple markets and functions at Boehringer Ingelheim. Her career spans global and local responsibilities in marketing, commercial strategy, and product launches, particularly in respiratory and oncology, including regional leadership for Japan and Australia.

Maria officially stepped into the role of Country Managing Director and Head of Human Pharma UK & Ireland on 1 November 2025. With her broad perspective and deep understanding of the business, she is well-positioned to lead the next chapter for our UK & Ireland team.

Maria is deeply committed to fostering a culture grounded in purpose, collaboration, and integrity – values that have guided her leadership throughout her career. She is passionate about creating a collaborative ecosystem that fosters innovation and access across all dimensions of health. By working together and leveraging our collective expertise, she believes we can make significant strides in improving health outcomes and ensuring that innovative solutions are accessible to everyone who needs them. 

Born in Brazil and holding Portuguese nationality, Maria is a graduate of the Rotman School at the University of Toronto. Fluent in five languages, Maria recently relocated to the UK with her family.
